We maintain a network of specialists and assemble the team each learning objective requires.
Games teach when they are designed to.
Every decision has to earn its place against what the learner needs to walk away with.
We exist to craft the ones that do.
Commercial game design begins with a mechanic.
Educational game design begins with the competences the learner must acquire, and derives the mechanic from them.
Rules dictate behaviour. Fun is just the outcome.
Whatever the format, from extended reality to tabletop, our process rests on four principles: intended experience, core loop, rules, and playtesting.
How the learner is supposed to feel. With the learning goal fixed, we choose the experience we're aiming at, whether that's pressure, precision or curiosity, before designing a single mechanic.
The core loop is the heart of the game. It is the challenge that teaches, and the feedback that reinforces the learning. We build the lesson into that cycle and iterate until it holds.
A system that can be read is a system that can be learned. We set the difficulty, the decisions open to the learner, and what each one costs. Working that out is the learning; the enjoyment is a by-product of doing it.
Playtesting is formative evaluation. Each design is tested with subject matter experts and the intended learners. Every round gets us closer to the final design.
These are the formats we build in most.
A technology is a means to the learning objective and nothing more; where a project requires another format, we accommodate it.
Simulation for skills too costly or hazardous to rehearse in person.
The most widely available device; practice that travels with the learner.
Deep, high-performance learning tools, accessible in any browser.
Tactile play that builds social skills and makes reasoning visible.
AI allows us to prototype faster, and each iteration brings us closer to the intended outcome, but every game is designed, developed, and tested by a real person.
Send us your idea and let's build something together.
